Important Date Change on Teacher Strike

Re: Change of Date for Rotating Strike Action

Further to my letter of May 20th, I am writing today to advise you that the British
Columbia Teachers’ Federation has changed the date on which SD8 (Kootenay Lake)Teachers will be withdrawing fully from their services.

The day for the full withdrawal of service in SD8 has been changed from May 29 asindicated in the BCTF’s original press release, to May 28.

Therefore we ask that you not send your children to school on Wednesday, May 28th. Thursday, May 29th will be a regular school day, and on Friday, May 30th there will be no school for all students as it is a Planning Day for the 2014-2015 school year.

It is my understanding that this change has been made because of a miscommunication between the BCTF Executive Committee and their Field Services. Apparently there was a concern that BCTF Representatives travelling to the Representative Assembly from remote districts would need part of Thursday for travel, and shouldn’t be outside of their districts when teachers were involved in the full withdrawal of services.

I am also advised that there may be more changes. Please watch our website closely.(www.sd8.bc.ca).

Sincerely,
Jeff Jones, Superintendent of Schools/CEO
