Shane Philip Show Tomorrow!

Shane PhilipShane Philip with Ty West and Jesse Lee (A Starbelly Jam Pre-Party) at The Hub, Thursday April 4th, 8pm!

Join us for a night out at The Hub for a Starbelly Jam pre-party with multi-instrumentalist, SHANE PHILIP (who will be playing at Starbelly this summer as well!)

Swelling in primordial pulses and wholloping whoops, the tacit tones of Shane Philip’s didgeridoo hold the power to still listeners into silence or encourage audiences to rise up in a tribal swell of intoxicating spirit. Meanwhile his hands will be skillfully juggling between shaking up rhythms with his aslatua, driving the dance floor with his djembe and sliding out grooves on his Weissenborn-style guitar while his foot taps in earthshaking electronic kicks wherever they might fit.

Nelson favourites, Ty West & Jesse Lee will open.

No cover charge but donations for the musicians will be greatly appreciated (suggested donation $5 – $10).The show starts at 8 pm!

Bio:Shane Philip is a full-time touring musician with four albums under his belt. He charts on national independent and campus radio stations and is a regular on CBC radio shows across Canada. From early childhood moments of drumming kitchen tables and car dashboards, to the present, Shane’s musical stylings have been self-taught and self-motivated every step of the way.Borrowing from folk, reggae, blues and beyond, he blurs the boundaries of expectation and music into an altogether unique soundscape. “We are influenced by everything we listen to, see and do,” Shane reminds. “So much of what shapes the music, vibe, content, and overall feeling of the songs is unconscious. I write music that results from everything that goes on in the life I live.”2005 marked the beginning of Shane’s life as a non-stop touring musician. Since then he’s toured Canada extensively, often putting in triple overtime. Shane is now expanding to an international market. In 2007, Shane released Earthshake, a collection of songs he’d been working on, with production assistance from long-time collaborator, Corwin Fox.

2008 saw this collaboration expanded and revamped with the release of In the Moment. While some of the songs are rhythmically focused (bursting with high energy and powerful dance rhythms), others are deeply moving songs that reflect the environment, social justice and personal experience.

Live at Baker Studios was released in 2009 and showcases the noted one-man band’s aptitude for performance in high-pressure situations. The album was recorded in Victoria BC by Joby Baker (Cowboy Junkies, The Bills, Alex Cuba) live off the floor in 2 days. With numerous musical instruments at hands reach, Philip’s exuberant excellence beats out even the most zealous of multi-taskers.2011 brings Shane Philip’s latest release Life.Love.Music. Once again, collaborating with Joby Baker, who not only produced the CD but also plays bass and drums on it. Life.Love.Music. continues where Live at Baker Studios left off. It’s more polished as he took more time to record it (a whole eight days instead of two!).

Shane sends out much love and gratitude to everyone who has supported and inspired him along the way.
