Kootenay Lake Riparian Areas Workshops Coming Up

The RDCK is undertaking a review of the current Environmental Development Permit Areas around Kootenay Lake. The project seeks to understand whether changes could be made to better align the current development permit requirements with the community values for Kootenay Lake and address concerns related to Kootenay Lake while also ensuring the requirements are consistent with current best management practices.

The RDCK will be hosting an online workshop to support the review project. I am reaching out today to see if you would be interested in attending one of the workshops via Webex. There will be two opportunities to attend – one on Tuesday, April 27th, 2021 from 1:00 – 3:00PM and another the following evening on Wednesday, April 28th, 2021 from 6:30 – 8:30PM.

During the workshop we will cover:

  • General information on Riparian Areas, what they are and why they are important
  • Current RDCK permitting requirements around Kootenay Lake (Development Permits)
  • Discussing the values that we have for Kootenay Lake and any concerns related to the Lake

Our goal is to provide attendees with more information on Riparian Areas to ultimately raise awareness for shoreline stewardship around Kootenay Lake while also getting feedback from community members around the Lake on what matters most to them about Kootenay Lake. We encourage everyone and anyone who is interested to attend – not just those who own property around the Lake but anyone who spends time enjoying Kootenay Lake.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in attending, please take a look at the attached poster for additional details. More information, including meeting details (how to join online or by phone), can also be found on our website: https://rdck.ca/EN/main/services/community-planning/kootenay-lake-development-permit-area-review.html

If you have any questions please feel free to follow up. Otherwise I hope to see you at one of our workshops in a few weeks’ time.
